In Tango, one of Japan’s greatest silk producing areas, Kyoji Tamiya weaves a host of precious materials : silk, mother-of-pearl, leather, wood, bamboo, etc.
I designed for Tamiya a small collection of 4 patterns, 2 using only silk and 2 using silk and mother-of-pearl.
Extremely thin mother-of-pearl strips are cut from fine sheets of shell and put into the loom to be woven with the silk yarns. We worked on reversible and easy to use upholstery fabrics which could also be used for fashion.
日本有数のシルク織物の生産地である丹後で、民谷共路は、シルク、貝殻、レザー、木、竹などの貴重な素材を使って織物を製作しています。
民谷では4つの柄からなる小さなコレクションをデザインしました。そのうち2つはシルクだけを使い、もう2つはシルクと貝殻を使用しました。薄いシート状になった貝を細く糸状に切ることで、シルクと一緒に織機で織ることができます。インテリアファブリックとしてリバーシブルで使用することもできますが、ファッションテキスタイルとしても使うことができます。
